Wow, Dragatomi is really working hard this year (not that they haven’t been already– but you get where I’m going). They just held their Art for Wishes opening, and have just announced their upcoming show with kawaii extraordinaire NReazon!
I’ve been aware of nreazon’s works for a while, I have a radar for cute, but in the last couple of weeks I’ve found myself continuous “window shopping” on her site. I like t-shirts with underwear on them. haha! I’m curious to see her body of work and can’t wait for sneak peeks in anticipation for the show.
I’m in the process of researching her, as I’ve got loads more questions about who she is and how her art came to be– which leads me to the following request: if you could ask her anything in regards to her as a person and artist, what would it be? While I learn more about her, I recommend you stop by her site and even watch some of her v-blogs. The Mr. and I were watching some the other night, and really enjoyed them.

It is finally happening. Jon Burgerman is in the states and he’ll be in a collaborative show with Jim Avignon at Factory Fresh located in Brooklyn. Yes, the man is that close to me right now. =) I’ve been anticipating the day I’d meet him and I thought it would happen during Kidrobot’s 3Bears signing last year, but he didn’t show and Kidrobot were acting like douches by not allowing black books at the signing– that’s a whole different dilemma all together. Now, I’ll have the chance to actually see Jon’s canvas works up close and hopefully chat with him a little bit about toys, art, and life itself. If you’re in town, click on the link to get more info.
By the way, I’m aware that this show is taking place the same day/time that David Horvath will be at Yoyamart. I love David and have been lucky enough to meet and chat with him a couple times now– so I am comitting myself to the Burgerman show. If time allows, I’ll try to be at the Bossy Bear’s turtle release. Besides, I hear Jon’s been couped up in a basement since he arrived, waking up on deflated air beds and whatnot– I definitely want to see the live drawing and get him in my new book!

Baka! Today was the opening night of Gallery Hanahou’s Second Annual (??) Plush show. Last year, I’d never heard of Gallery Hanahou, but it was this very show that brought them to my attention. I’d made a promise to myself to catch the show this year and I hate that my day job interfered with my attending the opening night. Blah! It doesn’t mean I can’t catch the show later this month, as the show will be on display from today through January 7th– but the sooner I get my butt down there, the better the chances are that I’ll actually see it. =)
Although I didn’t make it today, I thought I would share some of my favorite plushies that I spotted on the sale list. If you want to purchase one, I’ll provide the link and more information at the bottom of this post.

On October 16th, I was able to squeeze out of a work meeting to attend Gallery Hanahou’s Spread the Lead opening in lower Manhattan. I’m a fan of this gallery, though this is officially the second show I attend there (the first being Superdeux’s solo show). It is located inside the Cable Building, which has been around since 1892– suddenly, this has turned into an architectural history lesson. Anyway, before reaching the actual gallery, you have to walk through this pathway with high ceilings and huge windows on either sides, I love walking through it, click here to see a photo.

I’m not sure if NYC residents have noticed, but we’ve got plenty of shows to keep us busy in the month of August. I thought I’d make a rundown of all the shows (which I’ve blogged about before) and whether or not I shall be around. First up, Julie West’s Sickly Sweet taking place this Friday at My Plastic Heart.

Best part? I was able to score an interview with Julie (thanks to the wonderful peeps at MPH) and will hopefully be available during the show, but I’ll share a link when it is posted. Yay! It was loads of fun talking to her and hope that you all come out and see her. This has definitely been added to my calendar. Yay!

It’s quite a pleasure to be included in a press email, and I have to say that I’m glad that I was included for this show– the works seem to be impecible. I am quite delighted to share news of Intoxicated Demon’s Addicted to Details show taking place in Berlin. Hit the jump for more info.

I felt the need to post about this show, that is not being hosted in NYC, because my buddy is going to have a few pieces in it! The images and information were taken from ToyCyte, but I thought this would be a great way to congratulate Podgy for being listed in the show’s “artists” section. We all know Podgypanda by now, don’t we? He’s the fella who went through the trouble of hooking me up with my banner. Some other artists will include: Doctor A, Julie West, Kathie Olivas (image above), Brandt Peters, and so many more. If you live in LA and have no plans August 2nd, I suggest you go to Toycyte to get details on the show.

Just a couple days ago I featured Hef’s Shaun of the Dead custom munny. Along with the feature, he informed me that Spaced, Simon Pegg’s breakthrough into the entertainment business, was going to be released in the US. You can imagine I looked through the net for more info, but Hef was kind enough to send me a link to the press release. So ladies and gentlemen, above is the possible box art for the upcoming release.
