Scene: Shin Tanaka Night
Last week, I shared I'd be attending New York-Tokyo and Frank's Chop Shop party in honor of Shin Tanaka. The art of paper toys (not origami-- although I also appreciate that form of art too) have been...

I know I haven’t posted in a while. For those who follow my twitter, you’ll note that my computer crashed during a crucial time in posting and then I proceeding to get sick. Such fun was had. Anyway, I fell behind on many aspects for a while, but I think I’m pretty caught up with the various scenes I scope out and will start with finally posting about the upcoming custom Jibibuts show taking place at Munky King Melrose next month. I’ve gone ahead and searched the internet for some of the customs surfacing on the net, so hit the jump to check out larger images and additional customs…
It’s obvious that I would love anything produced by Podgy. I mean, he created my character along with the Mr.’s and several banners– he helps put a face on my site. And, when he told me he was going to be participating in The Renmen Project– I reached a new level of excitement.
The Renmen Project, born from the creative people at Thunder Chucky and Ben The Illustrator, is a project which promises to raise funds for UNICEF’s Haiti appeal. The goal is to work with some of the top, most talented and sought after artists to produce limited artwork. The best part is that 100% of the funds will be donated to UNICEF.
Some of the artists working with the project include; Jeremyville, TADO, Pete Fowler, Peskimo, Felt Mistress, and many more– including Podgypanda who will be part of their postcard series!! Above is his entry for the project. He’s dropped several teaser pictures on twitter– but this is the final version. I can’t wait to get a copy. It’ll join my Podgy shrine! I kid, I don’t have a shrine. =D
P.S. I’d like to take this opportunity to send some love to The Free Love Crew: The Neon Hive, Felt Mistress, Scooter&Jinx and ProjectDetonate! There’s a reason for the shout out– but suddenly it feels like a secret. <3
Hey everyone… sorry I haven’t updated in a while. But, here it is! I’ve announced the winner of the PodgyPanda pendant, and the winner is someone I know pretty well too. Also, I didn’t mention it in the video– but like my uber trendy Where The Wild Things Are tee? I picked it up and UrbanOutfitters, I know evil– blah, blah, blah. I’m sorry, I couldn’t resist the call. Until next time. Peace.
We’ve all moved on from 2009, but there was just one more giveaway that didn’t quite make it during 2009, but promises to set off 2010! Podgypanda, creator of all cute characters on this site (including mini Saki, Grim and Megaroo), worked on a special release of Mustache Panda pendants/pins. They’re wood pendants that have been laser engraved with Podgy’s infamous panda sporting a respectable mustache. These are limited to 35 pieces and have been sold out since their release.
I just wanted to share that, Podgy’s panda character was the reason I ever even spoke to Podgy. I spotted his image on flickr, because even after 3yrs I’m still flickr obsessed, and I wanted more from Podgy. Now, although we’ve yet to meet in person (crossing my fingers for a 2010 meet), I consider him to be a close friend. So, hit the jump to get details on winning the Panda pendant. =D
If you watched my v-blog then you’ll know that the Mr. surprised me with an amazing gift. He commissioned PodgyPanda (creator of Mini Saki, Grim and Megaroo) to customize my very first 8″ dunny!
Not only is it a custom dunny, but it features mini Saki (me) along with the L4D cast. =D If you didn’t know, I am a huge fan of L4D– it seriously changed the way I game. I’m not claiming to be an expert (although I did play the 1st one all the way through on expert with an awesome crew)– but it defeated my fear of sucking and FPS (first-person shooters) games. And now, Podgy has created a zombie doodle madness.
You can see more photos in the slideshow– but I just want to once more give a big shout-out to both my wonderful Mr. and Podgypanda for making this happen.
For those who know or may not know I was in Auckland, NZ since October 21 and returned back to the states just this past Friday. I enjoyed the beautiful landscapes, the countless bakeries/coffee spots, sheep, city life, insane town names (that can’t be pronouced without practice), wonderful people, and of course Armageddon.
Armageddon is one of New Zealand’s largest gaming/animation and pop culture expos, which took place at the ASB Showgrounds in Auckland.
I felt the need to post about this show, that is not being hosted in NYC, because my buddy is going to have a few pieces in it! The images and information were taken from ToyCyte, but I thought this would be a great way to congratulate Podgy for being listed in the show’s “artists” section. We all know Podgypanda by now, don’t we? He’s the fella who went through the trouble of hooking me up with my banner. Some other artists will include: Doctor A, Julie West, Kathie Olivas (image above), Brandt Peters, and so many more. If you live in LA and have no plans August 2nd, I suggest you go to Toycyte to get details on the show.
My friend Podgy, upcoming artist extraordinaire has released his first t-shirt design: Chick Magnet. I love it!! My favorite part? The little chick resisting the “love”.
Podgy is the artist responsible for making mini saki- the kawaii goodness that is me in shrunken form. Yay for Podgy and his first shirt. Now, go buy his t-shirt, which available for both men and women… I’m sure you can agree that the shirt is too cool not to own. Since he’s in New Zealand it’ll cost $40 NZD, but if you’re in the states, that converts to approx. $30. Visit his shop to purchase.
