I ran into Steve Talkowski creator (and guide really through the toy making process on his flickr) of Sketchbot. He had a 3D model fresh off the printer with him and I loved it. Though the piece is still a blank, Sketchbot had a great feel and weight to it. Steve did an amazing job with this model and I really can’t wait until Sketchbot is available for the masses.

NYCC09: Mechtorians at TT

It’s been over a week since NYCC invaded New York and I’m finally getting down to business and posting some of the things that caught my eye. First up, at Toy Tokyo’s booth, they had Doktor A’s Mechtorians on display. I hadn’t gotten a chance to see them in person, but now that I have have, I am reassured in my decision to pick them up. The character above, Sir Shilling Copperpenny, is my favorite. I think it’s his oversized belly. =)

Hanging with the Artists

NYCC really does bring some of the best times to New York. Now in it’s 4th year, it is becoming one of my yearly highlights and it’s all due to the releases and abundance of artists that I get to meet within the weekend. Kidrobot is just adding to the awesomeness that is this upcoming weekend by hosting their own artist night this Friday at their Prince Street location. I’ve met 80% of the artists who are listed (I don’t know about the unknowns) except for Shane Jessup, so I’m not sure on the likelihood of my attending this event. There’s a party or two I want to crash, so I need to start working on my schedule and see where I am committing to attend.

kaNO’s Hi-Def upcoming release

For a while now, kaNO has been dropping sneak peeks of his upcoming Hi-Def figure and it had many of us curious about what exactly it would be. On Friday, during ToyQube’s Grand Re-Opening party, I was lucky enough to see the upcoming NYCC black colorway Hi-Def! pictured above. I’m thinking that I’ll definitely want to get my hands on this figure. As soon as I spotted it, I gravitated to the unique face adorned with bumpin’ headphones, so bad ass! I was also really digging the military jacket, which by the way, if you’ve met kaNO in person– you’ve probably noticed that he himself fancies a military jacket. =) I didn’t get to play much with the figure, but it stands about 10″ tall and it seems that it is fully articulated? If you’re interested in picking one of these up, be sure to make your way to ToyQube’s booth #870 and be ready to dish out a very moderate $85.

P.S. Who’s going to NYCC? What news do you want to hear from there? I’ll be around, mostly the toy booths, but, I will also be attending some panels– and have a video game interview or two lined up [Ghostbusters for the Mr.]. Hope to see you there.

Uglydoll Action Figures

Ah, David Ugly (I have officially re-named him) has just dropped the word that the Uglydoll action figures will definitely be available for NYCC. It was rumored, or hoped better said, that they would be available for Uglycon which took place last Saturday, but it seems they just weren’t ready. That’s alright though, because I definitely plan on attending this years NYCC and I WILL get my hands on this set. They’re oodles of cuteness.

Hey, are any of you attending NYCC this year? Let me know, we’ll arrange a meet-up or something.

NYCC: Brent Nolasco

It’s been a week and I’m still catching up on NYCC. MPH had an incredibly busy booth with all their exclusives and signings. Among those exclusives were 5 sets of custom vivisect figures created by Brent Nolasco. I have yet to purchase any of the vivisect blindboxes, mainly because I’ve been purchasing a bunch of other stuff and preparing for NYCC, but how I wish I had the loot to purchase Brent’s customs. I think he did an amazing job, completely changed the look and feel of these already cool figures. As the label says though, they’re all sold out! If you haven’t checked out his stuff before, I highly recommend you head over to his flickr page (which also contains better images of the customs above) and maybe contact him about creating a custom for you.

Where I’ll be…

Today begins the weekend I’ve been looking forward to for a while. Actually, Mad’s show last night was really the kickoff to what I see as the weekend of “awesomeness!” I’m going to try my very best to do a couple of things this weekend. 1. Not go BROKE!! 2. Try my best to post pictures from NYCC. 3. Have fun!

The above are some of the places I’ll be at. I’m hoping to chat with Erick Scarecrow and possibly pick up one of his figures. I really wanted to pick up the Kissaki, but then I realized that I confused the Kissaki colors for some that were on the Kaiju figure and now I’m having doubts. But, I look forward to seeing the man in person and stealing his soul. There a couple other things/signings I plan attending, but I’ll update at the end of the day. See you at the con if you go.

Erick’s Kissaki Surprise

I just opened my email to Erick’s NYCC surprise. I have to say that I am a huge fan of Erick’s Liberty, that figure looks amazing. This Kissaki figure is up there in terms of my love for it. I want it, it could be because “saki” is in it, or the fact that she’s got two swords with fists at the end. Either way, the figure will be released during NYCC and it’ll cost you$69.99.

About the new additions.

When MPH first released the image of their tokidoki exclusives, [see here], I was uber excited. Like this::smile:

Then I found out that in order to get the newest additions, I was going to have to submit myself, and wallet, to blind boxes again. What’s that mean? These three additions will be included in the regular blind boxes that were originally released. That means I might have to get 7 latte’s again before I get a rice milk. Clearly, my smile turned into this:

So what were they brewing?

I’d known when MPH posted the above image that their surprise was going to be Tokidoki’s Sandy in a platinum colorway. I was excited for the release, because Sandy is actually one of my favorite characters, which by the way, I’ve recently noticed I don’t own. She’s green and spiky, uh– that just automatically means she rules. How do you think I reacted when I saw the latest photo release?

She looks so wonderful in silver! Even more exciting is the addition of more moofia blind boxes. I knew they were going to be releasing a pink milk figure, she was printed on the inside of Mozzarella’s packaging, so it was about time, but I totally did not expect the rice milk and half-&-half. AWESOME!!

So now, I ask the inevitable questions: Who’s going to NYCC? And when are we meeting up?!! I’ll be roaming around all weekend, because I can.
