Scene: Shin Tanaka Night
Last week, I shared I'd be attending New York-Tokyo and Frank's Chop Shop party in honor of Shin Tanaka. The art of paper toys (not origami-- although I also appreciate that form of art too) have been...

If you took 10 minutes out of your day to watch my latest vlog (video blog spelled the lazy way), then you know that this weekend, we stopped by the opening night of Kidrobot’s Munnyworld exhibition. Before I keep going, I want to thank the Mr. for putting together video in the fastest turn-around pace ever. =D
This weekend is looking to be a great one so far, we have the upcoming opening of Leontine Greenberg and Scott Campbell at MyPlasticHeart, but Kidrobot’s MunnyWorld Custom Show will also be held this weekend and the line-up is looking AMAZING!!!
We’ll be there tomorrow and hopefully will be able to film on the premises and maybe do on the spot interviews? Hopefully. We will definitely take pictures and share them with you ASAP. BTW, I get to see Tesse tomorrow. Woot-woot!!
I feel really cheap and dirty right now. I have to come up with a new “tag line” when posting about customs– “Custom Delights” clearly belongs to Tomopop. =X Soon, I promise! Now back to our programming. =) Jeremiah Ketner, or how I’ve been referring to him: Small and Round, has just posted some custom works of his on his commerce website. I’ve become a huge fan of work and style and I only wish I was a more selfish human being so I could guiltlessly purchase one of his custom madl’s.
Currently, the “Pink Guy” is the only madl still available, along with a Munny he also customized. I love the pink guy, but I really wanted to purchase his “Blue Guy” and that’s been sold off. *shakes fist with anger* Oh well, maybe next time. What’s important to focus on is the fact that this artist is REALLY talented and creates amazing pieces– and I have recently discovered a very affordable price tag of $150 for a 5″ MadL and $300 for the Munny. Check out his shop for other shopping opportunities. Maybe buy me the guy above and I’ll heart you forever and ever?!
A very long time ago, I posted a video from kidrobot in which they promoted their Munny. Now, they’ve released a second video and I love it just as much as the first one. If you missed Kidrobot’s first video, click this link to watch it.
Last night, while chatting with Steve (Mr. Turnip creator) he sent me a link to this adorable custom munny. He found this gem on the KidRobot forums [that I happen to belong to, but am not good about participating] and I was instantly in love. I have to say that it’s almost a default that I’ll fall in love with a figure that has a develish innocent look to it. That doesn’t even make any sense!
I wasn’t clear on the name of the character, I think bee89 called him OZ, but I could be very wrong. Super sculpey was used to remake the arms, lollipop, hair and eyebrows. It was cooked in the oven to harden and then it got it’s coat of paint (or as I like to say, it’s wonderful personality). Hit the jump for some progress photos and hit the KidRobot boards for more info.
I know we’ve all seen the latest custom Joker Munny that Lobster Johnson created. It was a homage to Heith Ledger as the Joker and just as I thought Heath captured the evil spirit of the Joker, I thought the same of the custom. It looks so freakishly like Heath, except with a deformed head. Well, have you spotted the great find that ToyCutter posted about? It’s 2D from Gorillaz also Joker-fied! Hit the jump to see the image.
I don’t think it’s even necessary to say how AMAZING this munny is, right? I mean, I applaud Amanda’s vision. The ears, the wings, the already-in-the-belly gnome. This is truly a work of art, and will soon [June to be more precise] be auctioned off to some lucky person who has more money than I do. How I wish I could hug him, as he measure 20″, I know he can withstand my lovin’. Amanda, though I doubt you’d know of my site, if you ever stop by: please make a gnome eating munny for me! Pleaseeee!
It’s been a long while since I’ve featured a custom munny, but when Hefnatron posted his latest mini munny… I couldn’t not share. Hefnatron, responsible for the Indiana Jones munny and the King Leonidas munny, now presents Shaun from Shaun of the Dead. I am a HUGE fan of Simon Pegg, have been since the Mr. put Spaced on TV for me (which, Hef reports is finally being released on DVD in the states). The show is hilarious, and he is the awesomeness. Great job Hef!! To check out more images follow the flickr link below, or go to Hefnatron’s blog to keep up with his projects.
Sket dropped me a line today of his upcoming show at Circa this Friday (May 9th). The show “Snake Eyes” will feature 8 new custom Dunnys and Munnys from Sket. He released a peek of one of his designs (hit the jump to see), and I like it. All of the pieces that will be on display are available for sale, not sure how much they’re going for though. I wish I was near Toronto to attend- if you’re attending, please share your pics.
It’s quite possible that other people in the interweb have already shared this, since it’s dated April 2007, but I just found him and thought the custom was too amazing. You can hardly tell it’s a munny, had it not been for the backwards body and hands– and the artist telling us it was a munny once helped too. I love it!!!
