Last week was Gary Taxali’s first NYC solo show opening at the Jonathan Levine Gallery. I am proud to say that I finally made it to an opening night! Something always happens whenever there’s a show opening, and I’m really happy that I didn’t randomly get cast with a sickness of some sort because Taxali’s opening was something that shouldn’t have been missed [image below taken by Patrick Francisco].

The abundantly talented artist debuted a generously over-sized collection of original mixed media works which filled the gallery’s white walls with pops of color. Although this is the first time I see his works in person, I’m aware that he is very explorative artist who is not afraid to work with different mediums and actually combine them in radiant ways.

This weekend, Gary Taxali will be taking over Jonathan Levine Gallery. This is the first, of an exceptional line-up of shows that Jonathan Levine will be hosting. I look forward to a great evening of new works by the man, and I hope to update this post with more information soon. Does anyone plan on attending?

Update: For his fist solo show in New York, the artist has created a series of mixed-media paintings and sculptures in what will be his largest collection of original work to date, both in quantity and in scale.
