Scene: Shin Tanaka Night
Last week, I shared I'd be attending New York-Tokyo and Frank's Chop Shop party in honor of Shin Tanaka. The art of paper toys (not origami-- although I also appreciate that form of art too) have been...

Last week Friday, was the 2nd annual New Moon show at MyPlasticHeart. I've been waiting for this show for a while, especially when I began to overhear the...
I’ll start off with, YAY!!! I always experience a unique joy when it comes to shows that Brent Nolasco participates in– and in this case, the joy is extended to the 4 other participants of the upcoming 5 Eyed Dragon show coming up in April at Dragatomi. The show will feature the works of some of the biggest names in the customizing world; Leecifer, DrilOne, Betso, Brent Nolasco and Southern Drawl.
I am experiencing a bout of jealousy in regards to this show. Mostly because for the past couple of months Southern Drawl has been rather quiet in the scene. Just days before the postcard for the show was leaked, I’d thrown his name out as a suggestion for a show and the person I was talking to didn’t recognize his name and it basically gave me an excuse to revisit and share some of his older munny designs. Anyway, this show is the first time in a while that he’ll be putting out a body of work– at least I hope so. Since it is five gentlemen (uh, where are the ladies?!!), I’m not sure how many pieces each artist will get to show. But the rest of the line up, includes artists who are very complementary to each other.
I can’t wait to see more photos of this show– Betso is already winning my heart with the custom on the card– I’m not entirely sure what figure he’s using for it. Anyway, if you’re in Sactown in April (the week after WonderCon), consider stopping by and giving Joanne/Ray and the rest of the crew a hug from me. <3!
It’s been over a month since Brent Nolasco and NEMO had their opening night at ToyQube’s Gallery, and we’ve yet to share what we saw. So, the Mr. has mustered up the video located above and as always, hit the jump for some of my favorites along with thoughts on the show.
I’ve been lucky enough to follow most, if not all of Brent Nolasco’s career within the designer toy world. Brent is an amazing person and an abundantly talented artist. Brent’s got some of the sickest customs out there and really does a great job of taking a platform piece and making it his own. Now, Brent really does have his own figure.
I absolutely love Brent’s style– it’s not this cutesey stuff that I’m normally into, but he has these very well defined lines and such bold colors, I can’t help but love his intricate work. Not to mention, the man is too cool for words as I’ve had the pleasure of hanging out with him a couple of times this year. Well, a buddy of mine wanted his asthetically boring speakers to have a little more style…
MPH has posted my interview with Brent Nolasco on their site. This interview took place briefly before he had his solo show at MPH on June 13th. Check it out if you want to learn more about Brent and his background. [MyPlasticHeart]
Last Friday, I left you with a peak at Brent’s custom Kaws which he created for his Broken Hearts and Stolen Souls show at MPH. Above is a side view of the piece of work. I believe it’s the piece I took the most pictures of, I’m in love with it. I only wish I had $1900 to drop on it, it truly is magnificent. Please hit the jump to continue reading and to see more images of the show.
Today is Brent’s show over at MyPlasticHeart. I’ve been anticipating the arrival of this date since I first got wind of his upcoming show, and believe me, it’s been a while. I kept track of Brent’s flickr for sneak peeks and was falling in love with all the photos he released. I’ve been especially favoring what he did to Kathie Oliva’s Benny and Red Bird figures. Well, if you thought those were great, hit the jump to see what I’ll be looking at in person tonight.
A great way to celebrate the end of finals, and yet another semester, is to stop by Brent Nolasco’s upcoming show at My Plastic Heart. The show will be “featuring an extensive line of customs and paintings showcasing his amazing detailed work.”[MPHBWNN]
Though I have yet to see the pieces, Brent really is both an amazing guy and artist, and I am anticipating his first solo show. The man really deserves this opportunity and I hope that more people recognize his works and style. I will share more information when the date nears.
P.S. VinylPulse has the first peak of one of the pieces.
It’s been a week and I’m still catching up on NYCC. MPH had an incredibly busy booth with all their exclusives and signings. Among those exclusives were 5 sets of custom vivisect figures created by Brent Nolasco. I have yet to purchase any of the vivisect blindboxes, mainly because I’ve been purchasing a bunch of other stuff and preparing for NYCC, but how I wish I had the loot to purchase Brent’s customs. I think he did an amazing job, completely changed the look and feel of these already cool figures. As the label says though, they’re all sold out! If you haven’t checked out his stuff before, I highly recommend you head over to his flickr page (which also contains better images of the customs above) and maybe contact him about creating a custom for you.
