New Look: The Giver

Monday, May 12th, 2008

Have you ever read The Giver by Louis Lowry? I read this book when I was in the 7th grade, and I have to admit that it continues to be one of my favorite books in the world.

It’s one of those 1984 type books that talks about an anti-utopia. One where people are born and are immediately given their purpose in life. They have no dreams, they have no hope or desire for something different… and they don’t question their situation. That applies to all except “the giver”. The person who bares truth and knowledge. If you haven’t read this book before, I suggest you read it.

Anyway, the purpose of the post was to display Erin McGuire’s art thesis. She revamped the covers of selected books that deal with anti-utopias, which included The Giver. I, of course, saw this as my opportunity to finally try to get others to read this book. If you’d like to see some of Erin’s other book covers, check ‘em out at: Erin McBlog

Now Reading Plugin

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

I thought I would point out. I have a category specified for “books/music” but I’m noticing that I don’t ever really get the chance to write reviews about the books/comics I’m reading. So I’ve found a plugin that’s going to make my life easier. It builds a library for me. Yay!

It’s very simple actually. I input the title or ISBN code and it finds the product page on Amazon, so that when you look through my library, you can click the link and purchase it yourself if you’re interested. Additionally, it keeps track of status, so it’ll show you what I’m reading, what I plan to read, and what I’ve read. It allows me to write a very short description of the book, or piece I’m reading. At the moment, I’ve been engrossed in The Walking Dead graphic novels, actually, I’ve been engrossed in 3 graphic novels. You can check the titles if you’d like.

When I get a chance I’m going to be updating the book list for all the books I’ve been reading. This doesn’t include school books though, unless I really liked them– school reading is very different from my own independent reading. I hope I can interest you in some of the titles I’m into.
