Due to it’s repetetiveness, 09-09-09 the date is causing a roucous. Threadless has just hopped on the loco bandwagon and is having a major $9 sale to celebrate all the 9’s going around. So, I thought I’d put together a list of shirts that are a collision of both worlds: the Threadless community and designer toys (and designers too)!!
Andrew Bell get’s the ball rolling with his “Eat Shirt and Die”
Andy Jenkins created the “Lettus Bee” skateboarder falling flat on his face figure, produced by Ningyoushi and Upper Playground. Awesome figure, I truly wish I was around for it. There’s nothing like someone smashing their face, no? =)
Bwana Spoons. I’m not into his stuff too much, although Steven the Bat really does make me warm and fuzzy, so does the Whale. Damn it, maybe I do like his stuff. =D
McBess. I remember getting an email from ALBOTAS about this designer whose design did not get accepted by KidRobot. Kind of sucks for him because I really dig it. Only if it stayed in Black and White though, I feel color would change the look completely. His artwork is pretty cool though.
Skwak is the last artist. I don’t remember where I’ve seen the works of this French Artist, but I have… his tee is too loud for me, but it seems like he makes his own toys.
All of these shirts are up on Threadless right now, and they’re only $9! Tees for less than $10 is not something you find often. If you don’t like any of these, it’s fine, because they have a HUGE selection and various sizes too. The largest for women’s is a 2XL, and Men’s it’s a 3XL, so even heavy set people can enjoy. I myself wear a comfortable XL and I’ve always loved their quality tees– so much so, that I wear them too much and people think I don’t do laundry.

MAD said it best in his final thoughts for our VPEast coverage, Andrew Bell (and company) rarely gets love because he’s in a different section at the cons– the same applies to his placement at NYCC. Well, luckily Jean from NOTCOT hung out with the Dumbrella team throughout SDCC and got some pretty sweet shots of their booth.
If you remember my “want list” post, you know Andrew Bell’s O-No Sushi was high on my list of wants. But, it seems I should’ve looked into the other members of the Dumbrella team.

Here is a very downscaled and highly edited list of the items I really want from SDCC. Thankfully, to a certain degree, due to the economy, there aren’t many releases this year. At the end of the post I’ll add up how much all of this would cost me if I was there.
First on my list is Amanda Visell’s labbit. It retails for $50, and it turns out it’s 5″ tall, not 10″ like I originally believed. MUST HAVE!! I think her art translated very well on this shape and I am loving the tone of the wood.
Andrew Bell’s O-NO! Sushi is my second must. I’ve been a huge fan of his O-No! sticker/print for ages. Well, SDCC officially celebrates its release from 2d to 3D form. Yay!! Two colorways will be released, the Blue is the SDCC exclusive– the red one will be released later in the year. These are $30 each, and the Mr. wants one too.
I posted about Big Sal– now, I’ll definitely be getting her. Thanks to a friend who is helping me out– I get to add Kathie Olivas and Brant Peters’ kaiju creation to my collection. If you’re going to pick this up, it’ll cost you $25 at the Super7 Booth and will be available on Thursday.
I haven’t been lucky lately with my hook-ups in regards to Kathie’s Scavengers. I have yet to complete my regular colorway collection– but Cosmic Pennie is one of my favorite characters in Series 2, and I’d really love to get it for my collection. These, like all other exclusive Scavengers, will run you $20 and will be available at ToyTokyo’s booth.
This latest set caught me by surprise. I didn’t realize that Mindstyle would be releasing another SDCC set– and this one contains a 3″ Two-Faced Hazel. I have yet to obtain any of the 3″ Hazels, and I would love this one to be my first. I wouldn’t mind having the other characters as I’m a bit of a fan of all the artists included in this set: Ron English, Kathie Olivas, Buff Monster, Doktor A and Brandt Peters. I’m also a HUGE fan of black and white figures and I sometimes believe, less color is better. This set costs $130 and will be available on Saturday from 1-3pm at Mindstyle’s booth I believe.
Rotofugi along with FormulaWerks have been creating awesome t-shirts lately, and it seems that at this year’s SDCC, the shirt above will be unleashed. I want!! I heart toys and I’m a nerd, so I would wear the combination of the two words proudly. These shirts will be available on all days throughout the con and they’ll run you a mere $16. Thanks to SpankyStokes, I’ll have this in my hands after the con.
Last, but really not least– I would’ve loved to be at SDCC so I could meet Jhonen Vasquez and get hooked up with one of these sweet prints for Bioshock 2.
Jhonen will be signing at the 2K Games booth on Saturday July 25th from 2-4 PM at San Diego Comicon, and apparently there will be 500 of the prints available.
I’m guessing the prints are free since no price has been specified. If you’re a fan of his works, which I am, this is a must stop. Please take some pictures and share them with me. =)
The Total Cost: $301.00

VPEast posted a wrap-up of this weekend’s MOCCA Festival, and among their pictures, taken by kaNO nonetheless– there was the above photo of Andrew Bell. He is holding what is to be his next figure! Woohoo!

From what I can see, the figure he’s holding is based on the print above. Funny enough, I LOVE this print. It is my favorite sticker too! Every time I run into Andrew at a fair, I must purchase at least one of these stickers. I hope that the blue isn’t the final color, because I really like the original image. Will keep you posted when I hear more news. Yay!!
By the way– I just bought Andrew Bell’s shirt on Threadless for $5!!! If you love his stuff, don’t miss this opportunity to get it. Click the link below to be re-directed.

I’ve very often reffered to threadless on this site. Well, now I get to share the collaboration between Threadless and Andrew Bell. Oh snaps!! The shirt is a slightly more gory version of the creatures from his head. I’m not sure how I feel about the orange colored shirt, and at the same time– I notice my closet is void of color so I may just have to get it for myself. If you’re interested in getting it, it’ll cost you $25 at Threadless.com
In the meantime, I feel the need to say that I hope more vinyl artist release “select” shirts on threadless. Earlier this year I found out that tokidoki had released a shirt with threadless, so I really hope this is a trend that picks up. More than anything, I’m crossing my fingers for the female artists? Come on Kathie, Julie, Tara… we wants shirts!

Not originally planned, yet, somehow it’s going to happen– Andrew Bell is going to stop by both, KRNY and Chicago’s Pirate store to sign his life away to devoted fans. No, no, not at all– I was just kidding. He will, however, be signing a toy or the box of his new release: Kid Reaper. It glows in the dark and it rules! Click the image to enlarge and get details.

As soon as I got wind of these news, from my GID obsessed Mr., I knew I had to share. Andrew Bell is quite an awesome artist. I’ve bugged him twice for sketches for my book and I love them. I wasn’t around for many of his releases, so whenever that happens I always get a special kind of excited because I’m getting the chance to support artists when I was unable to for a while.
Anyway, Andrew’s upcoming KidReaper, due to release October 16th is nothing short of AWESOME. Not only is it a reaper, but it glows!! This is clearly going to be purchased for the Mr. and I think with a $50 price tag, it’s quite worth it, don’t you agree?
Mad*L: Andrew Bell Edition

I’ll say it once and it’ll be enough: I will recognize an Andrew Bell anywhere. I’m trying my best to keep my head on my shoulders when it comes to all the news/exclusives from SDCC. Above, spotted on Vinyl Pulse, is a Mad*l- part of Mad’s Phase 3- created by Andrew Bell.
I’d look at the fella’s face and immidiately recognized Andrew Bell’s signature look. Apparently, Andrew has created the guy above for Frozen Empire. He should be dropping some time in December, how fitting. I hope he’ll cost approximately as much as Mad’s previous releases ($40-$50). I also want to know how many of him will be released, since clearly I want to get my hands on one. And, does his head glow-in-the-dark? Now, that would be even more awesome!
Andrew Bell’s Nurikabe [Updated]

I haven’t seen Andrew in the “scene” for a while. Last time I spotted him in person was during NYCC, though I do know he was at Tim Biskup’s show. The man is quite cool and modest, as most of the artists I’ve met have been. He, however, has a very cool demeaner, and I don’t mean “cool” like the high school days– I mean “cool” somewhat monotone and chill.
Anyway, it seems the man is working on something and that something is called: Nurikabe. I have yet to hear anything about it. I thought it would be a production piece, but it seems it may be a piece for an upcoming show? Not sure, but you can check his flickr for more shots.
I do, however, want to state that this piece is super simple. Under normal circumstance, I’d throw a hissy fit about how simple something is and I can’t help but hate Andrew for making great facial expressions. Clearly, I’ve fallen in love with those eyes, the mouth and that little sign he’s holding. He (Andrew) tends to have this effect on me. I want this little guy for myself, now please. Hit the jump for more shots and tiny details.
