This entry is going to be a little different than usual. It’ll serve more as a self-reflection on the outcome of this year’s election. Please continue at  your own will. Read the rest of this entry »

Have you…

November 4th, 2008

…voted today? I’m not going to preach to you about what candidate to vote for– but I expect people who complain about government to go out there and vote! The polls are open until 9pm leaving you plenty of time to chime in your own personal opinion, and if you don’t think that matters, then do it for history. Now, I’m on my way to take a photo in a booth. Shh!

Home Decor the Upper Playground way

November 4th, 2008

I’ve officially mentioned it a billion times now– Upper Playground is the bomb! =) Their latest addition to an already exceptional product line are pillows that sport some fancy art from two of my favorite artists; David Choe and Sam Flores.

I find that Choe’s pillow is a little too artsy for my home (although, in my head I have a dozen photo-ops), but Flores’ Fatima will go perfect with what I seem to have going on in my home. Each of the pillows measure 20″x20″ and cost $40 a pop. I really don’t think that’s a horrible price for some art in your home decor. To purchase either pillow follow the links below.

David Choe’s “Hair Do” / Sam Flores’ “Jumping Tiger

p.s. Upper Playground should pay me for the free advertising, I’m just saying. =)

“Spread the Lead” Now Online

November 3rd, 2008

On October 16th, I was able to squeeze out of a work meeting to attend Gallery Hanahou’s Spread the Lead opening in lower Manhattan. I’m a fan of this gallery, though this is officially the second show I attend there (the first being Superdeux’s solo show). It is located inside the Cable Building, which has been around since 1892– suddenly, this has turned into an architectural history lesson. Anyway, before reaching the actual gallery, you have to walk through this pathway with high ceilings and huge windows on either sides, I love walking through it, click here to see a photo. The Ugliest Awesome Costume

October 29th, 2008

I mean it… this really is the ugliest costume in the world– because it’s UGLY, as in, UGLYDOLL!! Flickr buddy swallowfield recently shared a photo of her home made Uglydoll costume that she made from scratch. Based on the color and look, it looks as though they created Jeero Babo — but it may be someone else. I LOVE it. I’ve officially declared most (if not all) David Horvath products to be my favorite toys. If only I could have this, but I swore I wouldn’t steal from 9yo anymore. =D For more details and step-by-step, click the link.

Where I’ll be

October 29th, 2008

Next week, November 5th, I plan on attending a lecture that hosts Paul Budnitz (KidRobot) and Mark Graham (ILoveDust). The lecture will focus on character design, animation and toy design. I think it’ll be great to learn about both the toy maker’s perspective and the artist’s perspective. I fell that many times whenever we interview people, we clearly only get one side of the story and I’m curious to hear about their “horrors” in the business. I hope to take some good notes and pictures– I also hope to score a sketch from ILoveDust since KidRobot wouldn’t let me bring my black book when he was in town earlier in the year. =) Funny.

Amanda Visell x Suckadelic

October 29th, 2008

During the custom Bumrush show at ToyToykyo, I finally had the distinct pleasure of meeting the Sucklord. I’ve been a semi-fan of his works for a while– I don’t base the “semi” on him but rather my love/hate for Star Wars– I’m sorry!! Anyway, one thing is for sure, I’ve been aware of his works and can recognize it quite easily whenever it’s in front of me. The man was actually a bit odd, and in a weird way, exactly what I imagined the Sucklord would be like.

It seems that the Sucklord is going to have a group show at Munky King. Who does it feature? His Suckadelic figure transformed by a plethora of artists. Above is Amanda Visell’s contribution taken straight from her blog. I’ve got to say it: I want!! I wonder how much it’ll be? I know KidRobot’s version is $500 buckaroos.

Bodega Release Party at MPH

October 28th, 2008

My Plastic Heart

210 Forsyth Street

It’s official, kaNO’s second coming has arrived and has been crunched down to a 6″ figure better known as: Bodega. For those who didn’t grow up in a primarily Latino “hood”, Bodega/s refer to your nickle and dime shops where you could score your 25 cent juices and 20 swedish fish for a buck. I can still score those swedish fishies, but that “quarter juice” doesn’t exist in my neighborhood anymore. I’m not too worried though, kaNO’s newest release will help settle some of those nostalgic moments as he’s a spitting image of those very quarter juices I had to sneak into my home because my mom wouldn’t let me drink them.

If you want to pick one up yourself, you should make your way to MPH on Friday November 7th from 6-9pm, for the release party (with DJ Kula). There will be 30 pieces on sale, limited to a total run of 300 and produced by Bic Plasics. Each figure will set you back $45 and come accessorized with a “shank” and brass knuckles.

A “Killa” in NYC

October 27th, 2008
Marka127

Marka127

On Saturday October 11th, a killa arrived to MyPlasticHeart’s gallery– and he brought Marka127 along for the ride. ^___^ Killa Instict, Marka127’s newest addition to designer toys, really is a menace to society. It seems Killa takes over the streets with a back pack full of markers and spray cans. I was quite impressed with the figure. The accessories it comes equipped with include: a gas mask, spray cans, markers, bolt cutter and rings. Hit the jump for more. Read the rest of this entry »
