I’m not sure if you’ve seen them, or whether you even knew that Meomi is the team behind this year’s Vancouver Olympics mascots. I don’t think I’ve posted about them before, but they are some of the cutest characters– and I’m totally putting the word out to any of my Canadian mates, please hook me up with plushies and other mascot goodies!!!

Meomi just posted the video above on their flickr, isn’t it adorable?!

It’s official, my titles keep getting longer and longer– so from now on– I’ll refer to this series as: “MtVD Gift Guide.” In this series of gift recommendations, we focus on the moustache aficionado. I myself am a fan of moustaches, I can’t help but like that fuzz on a man’s face– it’s not the same on women though, unless its gender breaking photography. Anyway, keep reading to check out some of my hairy finds.

Scene: New Moon 2010 from IHCS on Vimeo.

Last week Friday, was the 2nd annual New Moon show at MyPlasticHeart. I’ve been waiting for this show for a while, especially when I began to overhear the names of some of the participating artists. Lou Pimentel, Andrew Bell, kaNO, Stella Im Hultberg, Yumiko Kayukawa, Leontine Greenberg, and many more of my favorite artists and people were in one single exhibit. And!!! I scored a sketch from Stella, this time for real– not the whole I’m so excited and I’m holding my sketchbook ready to ask you for your soul and in my excitement have forgotten to ask you for a sketch kind of way. hahaha. >___<

As you can tell from my run-on sentence, the night was a blast and I even took cupcakes to the opening. They’re too rich I’m told, so I will work on my recipe… in the meantime, hit the jump to check out my favorite pieces and some photos from the ultra-packed gallery.

Arcade Expressionism - Threadless, Best T-shirts Ever

Oh art, you come in many forms– and Brock Davis understands this fact. Above, you’ll find one of Threadless’ newest t-shirt releases, Arcade Expressionism. I will add that even the basic gamer should recognize what scene is being depicted on the shirt– then again, one would argue that art is open for interpretation. =D

p.s. I recommend watching The King of Kong– a documentary about setting the Donkey Kong world record.

Yay!! By the time people see this, it will be my official birthtime! Shockingly enough I was born at 7am, strange since I’m a total night-owl. Never been an early bird, other than for classes. =D Anyway, of all coincidences, Jon Burgerman and Jim Avignon– better known as Anxieteam– will be performing at the Cake Factory. So, I’ll be spending my birthday with them –>

And! If you’d like to see why– you can hit the jump to see their first music video. =D

I’d like to take this moment to remind all the people out there, that Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching. I’m not sure if you guys celebrate it or not– for us, it really depends on our mood that year, but I thought I’d start posting some suggestions.  I’ll begin with 64Colors’ Be My Valentine print. I know many women like myself exist out there… you know, the kind that appreciate a cute little marshmallow boy pitchforking some hearts– the perfect combination of kawaii and pain. If your lady (or gentlemen for that matter) gets a kick out of this mash-up, then why not surprise them with this print?!!

You can get this print from the 64Colors shop for a very affordable $20!! Go get it now, tell them I heart them. <3

About The Poster Cause Project…

This post is long overdue and I’m pretty embarassed that I didn’t post about it sooner since The Poster Cause Project is right up my alley in regards to creating a better world. I know I sound a bit cheesy, but I’ve always been a pro-active community member, more-so when I was in high school than my “adult” years, but when there’s a chance to help, I really try to participate. Well, TPCP offers you that very opportunity.

This team of people (I’m guessing it’s a team) work with some established and up-and-coming artists– many of whom you’ve read about here, and produce limited prints with a fraction of the profits going to the artists’ choice of charity. What does this mean? Let’s say you love Sket– who’s one of the artists– you can purchase his print at a steal and half of it will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. It’s a win-win situation for all parties involved really.

And, in addition to their monthly releases, they’ve just added additional posters with the goal of donating 100% of the profits to help the Haiti Relief. Hit the jump to see my current favorite ones.

Domestic Disturbances Promo from David Ruzicka on Vimeo.

This weekend marks the opening of OsirisOrion’s first solo show at the David Apuzzo Gallery in Connecticut. The show, titled: Domestic Disturbances, promises to feature custom toys and sculptures. We usually try to show support to local artists (or a close traveling proximity), but sadly we’ve got a very important party to attend that evening and we won’t be able to make it. If you guys are in the area, check it out– tell us how it went. ^__^

Shows: Zombie Love at Gallery Nucleus

You’ve got to respect a gallery that opens up a zombie themed exhibit, especially so close to Valentine’s Day. I’m serious by the way– I mean, Gallery Nucleus is a fabulous gallery that I’ve yet to visit– but with this exhibit they’ve officially found a place in my heart. My Mr. and I (he even more than I) are huge zombie fans. I mean, he and I have each officially commissioned munnies/dunnies for each other that embody our favorite franchises (Resident Evil for him, L4D for me). I bought him Alex Pardee’s Army of Darkness print, along with the Lego Army of Darkness Ash t-shirt– anyway, you get the picture. This event is date-worthy for us, and if we were on the West Coast we’d totally be there.

Also, I’ve yet to attend of participate in a zombie walk. It’s been one of my goals for a while, and well, I suck. If you share my goal of turning into a brain craving zombie, the show will also feature a ZOMBIE WALK!!! Please, someone I know, go to this and share photos. I’m on twitter/flickr/facebook now! You’ve got my email: saki@iheartcoolstuff.com, share the goods– I’ll give you credit. ^0^

For more information visit the site. P.S. Junko Mizuno and Anna Chambers are going to have pieces in the show. If Anna has some zombie fruit or poop, I want it! I know I will.

Scene: When Hell Freezes Over from IHCS on Vimeo.

Last Friday MyPlasticHeart, located in downtown New York, hosted their first show of the year: When Hell Freezes Over. The show featured 15 customized Cranston Fellows Jr., created by Lou Pimentel. We were personally excited for this show, because we’ve witnessed the journey of Cranston’s creation. We instantly fell in love CFjr, and really didn’t expect to fall in love with any of the customs since the original is so damn great.

Well, we were proven so wrong. I suppose since the 15 invited artists were already working with a great platform, they really just went above and beyond. In an effort to make you feel more present at the shows we attend with our videos– we not only caught up with Lou before the show– but caught up with kaNO during the show. It was pretty awesome and laid-back and you get to witness some of the craziness that goes on during an MPH show. Hit the jump to see pictures from the event, and my favorite customs!
