This post is long overdue and I’m pretty embarassed that I didn’t post about it sooner since The Poster Cause Project is right up my alley in regards to creating a better world. I know I sound a bit cheesy, but I’ve always been a pro-active community member, more-so when I was in high school than my “adult” years, but when there’s a chance to help, I really try to participate. Well, TPCP offers you that very opportunity.
This team of people (I’m guessing it’s a team) work with some established and up-and-coming artists– many of whom you’ve read about here, and produce limited prints with a fraction of the profits going to the artists’ choice of charity. What does this mean? Let’s say you love Sket– who’s one of the artists– you can purchase his print at a steal and half of it will be donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. It’s a win-win situation for all parties involved really.
And, in addition to their monthly releases, they’ve just added additional posters with the goal of donating 100% of the profits to help the Haiti Relief. Hit the jump to see my current favorite ones.
I’m really loving Dalek’s poster for the Haiti Relief. If I may so bodly say so, I like it a lot more than the one he did for North Carolina’s Children’s Hospital– although both support a great cause, and 100% of the profits are being donated to both organizations. This one just pops more then the other one, I think it’s the color combination.
Abe Lincoln Jr.‘s set is my other favorite. I recently got to talk to him* during the custom Cranston show at MPH, and since it was the same week his set was released, I opened with how much I liked his set and respected his participation with the project. Well he and I got to talking and I learned more about his charity of choice, Stoked.org. Stoked is a mentoring program, using sports, to benefit at-risk youth. This really hit home for me since I used to be a Dean in a NYC high school working with at-risk youth. More props to Abe for his charity of choice, his work and the Poster Cause are helping programs that look out for my ex-students. Although it’s pricier than some of the other prints, remember, it’s a set of 5. See the brick wall, they’re not tiny prints– I’m just saying. =D
Anyway, although I’ve yet to have the pleasure of meeting TPCP crew– you’ve got my respect and appreciation. I hope I’m able to help any way I can– can I start by recommending some artists? This is purely my evilness and greed for prints from these people talking, but could you talk to: Leontine Greenberg, Lou Pimentel and Stella Im Hultberg? I’ve got more people in mind– but these people live in NY and I’ll gladly beg in person. ^___^ This would give me the excuse to stalk them. haha.
p.s. When can I see what NReazon and ProjectDetonate are releasing?
* I’ve been wanting to Abe since last year’s NYCC but was too much of a chicken– however, I’m determined to make 2010 my bitch, so I approached him. =D
