Break Up

Break Up

I came home after work thinking to myself, “I need to write about this artist, I need to write about this artist [referring to Pete Yorn].” Do you know why I needed to write about this artist? I needed to because he is singing with an actress that actually sounds pretty good singing. We get a lot of those actresses turned singer and it’s not always the best thing for them. You start thinking to yourself, “maybe she/he should have stayed acting.”  Well not this lady, she can act and apparently sing. Yes ladies and gentlemen, it’s Scarlett Johansson. Amazed? I am. She’s alongside Pete Yorn who plays all the instruments on the album Break Up, which was released May 12, 2009.

For those who have never heard of Pete Yorn he is from Montville, New Jersey and has had countless famous artist collaborate on numerous albums; from Dave Grohl of the Foo Fighters, Guitarist Pete Buck of R.E.M., and even shared the stage with Dave Matthews Band, Weezer, and Coldplay. If you guys watch or have watched Veronica Mars, his song “Just Another” was featured on the show. His voice is very sultry and mellow and I can picture myself sitting in the middle of a park bench on a brisk fall afternoon just listening to his songs because they are in fact, very relaxing.

Before I get off track and talk about his voice all day, the album  Break Up has nine songs and they all feature the voice of Scarlett Johansson. I am not going to lie and say she is a great singer but her voice definitely meshes well with Pete Yorn’s. His vocals are somewhat overpowering when he sings, but when you insert her voice which has a very 1930′s/40′s jazz club feel, it flows really well.

Pete Yorn featuring Scarlett Johansson – Relator Music Video by Jim Wright from BERNSTEIN & ANDRIULLI on Vimeo.

If you listen to “I Don’t Know What To Do” you can get the feeling of dancing in a black-and-white movie with your loved one returning from, pete-yorn-scarlett-johanssonlet’s say, war. HAHA! But one of my favorite songs on the album is called Relator [video posted above], it has a very uplifting beat to it and in the video Pete and Scarlett portray a couple that have their ups and downs but are singing it through music. I must say Scarlett is always a beauty and talented in everything she does. I am just very happy to say that this album is on one of my tops.

With my words of praise being shared, I recommend you buy the album and tell me what you think. I would love to know your opinions whether they be positive or negative You clearly know what I think, so share your thoughts. Yay go team Pete and Scarlett! I wish them success in the future!
