If you took 10 minutes out of your day to watch my latest vlog (video blog spelled the lazy way), then you know that this weekend, we stopped by the opening night of Kidrobot’s Munnyworld exhibition. Before I keep going, I want to thank the Mr. for putting together video in the fastest turn-around pace ever. =D

The exhibition played host to 50 custom Munny and Friends characters– although most of the figures were Munnies. The kick-off party was on Thursday night, November 12th at the Eloquent Delinquents Gallery on Wooster Street almost right around the corner from Kidrobot’s shop. I’ll start off by sharing my thoughts on the space. I bring up the space because it seems that this might be the location Kidrobot has chosen to host their shows– Paying Dues will also be held at the same location. I must admit that I really liked the location. It’s convenient to get to and it’s near their shop. When I realized I didn’t have the address on me and my iPhone was dying on me, I just went into their shop and asked about the location and there it was. The space was large enough to hold all the customs, along with a live DJ, a backroom that kept shelling out booze and an additional room where I’m guessing Nichole (the Baroness) along with the artists were finding comfort from the outer, almost-breaking-the-law packed gallery.

The VIP crowd arrived between 6-8pm, and as scheduled, doors opened to the public at 8pm. When I entered the gallery, I was taken back by two facts: the first was the realization that these weren’t 8″ munnies, but were instead the 18″ figures. Everything was clearly larger than I’d expected in my head. The second thing that caught me off guard was the amount of artists who were on hand. Some of the artists who were present included: Mist, Tilt, Andrew Bell, Mr. Shane Jessup, Sket-One, PON, Huck, Chuckboy, Sucklord, Kano and many more. I really love when artists take the time of day to hang with their fans and plenty of that was happening that night. It was great.

As for the customs, 3 syllables will suffice: O-M-G! I was amazed by most of the pieces. Munny’s been around pretty much since the beginning of Kidrobot, so to continue seeing original and unique designs is always a mind-blowing to me. At the opening, there really were some unique pieces, you can check below for some of my absolute favorite ones.

Munnyworld (2)

BukuBuku’s munny was one of my favorites. I loved the color palette (I’m a fan of green and it’s complementary colors), and the knitted accessories along with that irresistably cute face was too much to resist.

Munnyworld (11)

Andrew Bell always delivers amazing work, and this piece wasn’t any different. I really dig both the exposed heart and the blood splatter– but I’m just that type of lady. =D Also, it was the cheapest piece available! Not that I have any disposable cash, but if I had, this would be a piece that I could realistically afford to own.

Munnyworld (21)

64Colors were one of the few artists who took on the new shapes that were being released. They used a 16″ Raffy, the giraffe (or as I like to insits, LAMA!). I love that 64Colors incorporates nature themes into their pieces, and I think it’s the tree stumps along with the face that have me completely sold on this piece. The little rump is also just adorable.

Munnyworld (58)

Chuckboy was another one that I simply couldn’t get enough of. Again, similar to BukuBuku’s piece, I really like the muted color palette. But the blissful expression on Raffy’s face, along with the confusion on the munny’s face is all types of cute. I really want to steal that lollipop from both of them! This piece also solde, and I believe it was $1000. Not bad, seeing as how it’d technically 2 customs, 3 figures. =D I wish to get to know Chuckboy, so my plan to steal his soul (i.e., a sketch) has commenced, thanks to twitter.

There were so many more customs I was digging, but I’ve made this post long enough. Check out the slideshow and video to get a feel for the night. You really should’ve been there!!
