Scene: From Mind To Matter – Brent Nolasco X Nemo from I Heart Cool Stuff on Vimeo.

It’s been over a month since Brent Nolasco and NEMO had their opening night at ToyQube’s Gallery, and we’ve yet to share what we saw. So, the Mr. has mustered up the video located above and as always, hit the jump for some of my favorites along with thoughts on the show.

Anyone who’s hung out with Brent Nolasco knows he’s such an awesome guy to chat with. Every time he’s in town, I must see him, or I feel like a little part of me has died. Alright, maybe I’m exaggerating a bit, but it’s true! When From Mind To Matter was announced, I was really excited for two reasons; first because, Brent has worked his butt off and I’m glad he’s getting gallery attention, especially because his works are AMAZING– and secondly, because I’ve never seen artwork from NEMO. I know he’s a very talented sculptor, but I was curious what his art style would be.

The very first painting that caught my attention was the one above. Anyone who knows me, knows I have a thing for the color green– and one of the most complementary colors to green is purple, so it doesn’t surprise me that I would be drawn to this piece.

The second piece was actually the wall mural. I’m sure its not just me, but I find that if something is extra big, or super tiny, that I automatically want it. When I spotted Brent’s mural, I envisioned it on my apartment wall. It totally screams Brent, in slighly subdued way. I love the black, white and grayscales– and when he was telling me a bit about the process and having done it in just one day, I was even more impressed.

Finally, NeMO’s hairball sculpt was AWESOME! It has a slightly creepy feel, because afterall, it is a dustbunny– but his sculpting skills are just amazing. Through word of mouth, I’ve heard of NEMO’s talent, and as I mentioned before, him displaying his works alongside Brent was a great move in my book. I got to see a lot of the pieces and busts that NEMO has worked on, and he plans on producing the hairball above in the near future. I believe the colors are going to be similar to the painting next to it, and I can tell you that I’m sold. It measured about 4-5″ in height and about 5-6″ wide. I don’t recall whether he’ll be resin or vinyl, but I really want to see more of NEMo’s works out there.
