Interview: Jon Burgerman from I Heart Cool Stuff on Vimeo.

Last week was a pretty busy week for Jon Burgerman. Not only did he participate in a group show at Factory Fresh, which we recorded by the way and will be posting soon, but he had his solo opening at Giant Robot New York.

Jon Burgerman has been residing in New York City this summer, and he’s actually heading back home today, if I’m not mistaken. The solo show ecompasses his experiences in the US, as he made a stop in LA before arriving to New York. I had the opportunity to talk to him a bit about both his performance at Factory Fresh the night before (August 14th) and his time on our side of the pond. Keep reading to check out the video and photos from the solo show.

Best part of the scene video, is that Jon Burgerman shared Anxieteam’s “Let’s Eat Soya” song for the video. We’ve had this song in our head’s since their (Jon Burgerman and Jim Avignon) performance.

I have to say that Jon’s solo show was pretty awesome. I’ve seen his works in a couple group shows, but this one was definitely my favorite. It could be because of his storytelling pieces. I really enjoyed seeing his perspective on his experiences in America. The pieces, which were these white on bright orange works, had a wonderful charm to them.

His “Anxieteam” drawings were also pretty nifty, especially since I finally saw them perform and their songs were super cheesy and fun to dance to.

The best part of the show were The Felt Mistresses‘ Hipster plushies. Now, don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against hipsters but, I never thought I would love them so much. The one I really want is the second one from the left. Unfortunately for me, these guys (which were the most expensive pieces) were priced at $325. Although I couldn’t afford them, the fact that Jon made his art very affordable is quite admirable. I need to pay off all the other items I got this summer before I go back to GRNY and try to purchase one of his doodles. If you’re interested in purchasing one yourself, Giant Robot recently posted them on their site, so in their words “get to buying!” In the meantime, I leave you with a slideshow.

The Mr. and I will try to work on the Anxieteam/ Brooklyn Bailout Burlesque video this week– but seeing as how we’re in SF, we probably won’t be able to until next week. If you really want to see some of the performance, Doodle Splatter posted my Qik videos.
