It’s nearing two weeks since Stella Im Hultberg had her opening solo at Thinkspace Gallery, and I still haven’t shared my thoughts on the show.

I’ve known of Stella’s works for a while, but until recently, didn’t really consider the possibilities of owning an original piece by her. Although, her works at Thinkspace Gallery’s were very moderately priced, I still couldn’t really dish out the money. I did however which ones I would’ve purchased if I did have the money.

Canvas_InDreams

In Dreams

The first piece that I fell in love with was her In Dreams piece. I love the soft light in the right places of her female character. I think there is a subtle sensuality to her characters, but there’s also this vulnerability to her that I want to know more about. I’m also in love with the colors she chose for this piece. Were it not for the well-deserved $2800 price tag, this piece would be mine.

Paper_Unreflected

Unreflected

Unreflected was the other piece I wanted. I’m loving that she uses various mediums on tea stained paper. Again, I love the position of her female character. The side profile of the female intrigues me and I can’t help but be drawn to her lips and closed eye lids. I’m not sure what kind of flower this is– I want to say orchid or water lily, but that flower was prevalent in most of her pieces. I was so close to spending my entire check on this piece with it’s price tag of $750, but now its too late even if I did have the cash.

Figure_1_A

Figure 1

For this show, I’m not sure if Stella was given a few odd wood shaped pieces, or whether she picked them up herself– but she did a fantastic job transforming them. I had a hard time choosing between Figure 1 and Figure 8 (located below)– but both were sold out by the time I checked out the sneak preview. These were so affordable too– the piece above was $300, while the one below came in at a steal for $150.

Figure 8

Figure 8

In Figure 1, I really love the detail with the hair. The faux breeze works great with the shape of the wood. I was also drawn to the button nose. In Figure 8 I’m loving the lips. Stella captured this yearning in the piece that I didn’t find in her other pieces. Check out some of my other favorites below. Check out Thinkspace for available pieces– they’re all below $4k and there are some still available for less than a grand. She is an amazing and talented rising artist, and worth having in your collection.
