This weekend the Mr. and I finally had a movie day. We haven’t really had a lazy weekend in a long time, and this weekend wasn’t an exception to that, but I’m dog sitting again so we layed back just a little. I still have loads of posts and interviews to catch up on, but I really wanted to share my thoughts on two of the flicks we watched this weekend.

The first movie we watched was “Confessions of a Superhero,” directed by Matt Ogens. The film is a documentary that follows four superheroes, or at least four humans who dress up as some of our most beloved superheroes and walk down Hollywood Blvd. for tips.  I will admit that I am a fan of documentaries, but to be honest, the subject matter of the film really makes it a lot more interesting for wider audiences– at least in my opinion.

I’ve never been to Hollywood, California– but watching this film made me contemplate many things. At first, I was focused on the massive amount of photographs that could be taken of these souls who pretty much scavenger for money. The superheroes dress up out of their own free will and are not allowed to solicit payments, but as is often said in the films, “[they] work on tips.” It was pretty sad to see how broken some of their dreams were; they went to Hollywood in search of their big break and instead ended up being “pest” outside of Grauman’s Chinese Theater. Check out the film’s synopsis below to get more of an idea:

CONFESSIONS OF A SUPERHERO is a feature length documentary that chronicles the lives of three mortal men and one woman who make their living working as superhero characters on Hollywood Boulevard.  This deeply personal look into their daily routines reveals their hardships and triumphs as they pursue and achieve their own kind of fame.  The Hulk sold his Super Nintendo for a bus ticket to LA; Wonder Woman was a mid-western homecoming queen; Batman struggles with his anger, while Superman’s psyche is consumed by the Man of Steel.  Although the Walk of Fame is right beneath their feet, their own paths to stardom prove to be long, hard climbs.

The second film we watched was pure luck! I will admit that the reason I chose to watch “Cashback” was because I could’ve sworn the chick on the poster was Jessica Biel. In my mind, I didn’t care if the movie was shitty, as long as I got to see Jessica Biel’s breasts, that was enough for me. It turns out, it wasn’t Jessica Biel, and this flick was not at all what I expected.

The film was more of a romance film, without all the cheesy dialogue or lovey dovey crap. I’m sorry, I’ll admit that I liked “The Notebook” after my friend practically forced it on me, but I hate those type of films. Love is challenging, it’s not always like the fairy tales, and this movie sheds the light on that.

The beginning sequence starts with a slow-motion break-up, and a monologue from the main character questioning how and when did his relationship end up at that point? The rest of it has a similar “American Beauty” aura, with a very down to earth quality. I think this is a win for both men (not to size you all down to a common stereotype, but there are loads of boobs in the film) and women.

I highly recommend both films. For both men and women. If you’ve watched any of these, what’d you think? Share below…
