Thanks to VPEast, the Mr. and I were made aware of a show in Connecticut, that included Sket-One. I’m sure you’ve noticed from past posts, that I’m a big fan of the artist, so the Mr. and I didn’t hesitate to take the MetroNorth out there– it was also cheap enough. Check out more pics and info after the jump.
When we arrived to Channel 1, which is a lifestyle gallery in New Haven, CT– we were greeted by Sket One who introduced us to the gallery and shop’s owner, Lou Cox. Originally, my intention was to interview Lou– but I got really nervous and wasn’t able to gather enough courage to do it. But, I did manage to ask my questions anyway, in a casual conversation.
I was mostly curious about how the 9 artists were chosen to participate in the show. Lou provided a very simple answer to that, turns out; The Ninth Collective was put together to celebrate the shop’s 3 year anniversary (woohoo!). All 9 artists had solo shows at the gallery during the span of their existence, so what better way to celebrate than to do a group show with all the artists who have helped make up their community?
Below, as has become common, are my favorite pieces of the show. You can email Channel 1 at info@channel1online.com if you’re interested in any of the pieces. One thing I will share is that the prices of all of the pieces were EXTREMELY reasonable.

This particular piece was my absolute favorite. I’m not completely sure why– the picture I took really does it no justice. I think it could’ve been the white space, the tiny image, or the phrase: Time to earn your keep! All evening, I kept coming back to this piece, unfortunately I’ll be broke for while due to other purchases, so I couldn’t buy this piece. =(

This other piece, grew on me. At first, I kind of liked it– but it didn’t do much for me. Then, as the time flew by, I realized that this was done with ink and pen– that little fact was what sold me. Suddenly I focused on the details of the piece and was blown away with the accuracy of the lines. I also have a bit of a fixation with grim stuff, seeing as my Mr.’s pseudo-name is “GrimSanto.” This piece was still available and was created by RNC. If you’d like to pick it up, it’ll cost you $200.
Overall, we had a lot of fun checking out the show. I was introduced to new artists that I’ll be keeping an eye out for, including Jemma Williams who creates some awesome plushies. Looking through her site I’ve decided I want some fishies in my collection.
