This show took place over a month ago, and yet, I am just getting to uploading my photos and whatnot. Sorry about that. Many things piled up during that month. I won’t go in depth, which sucks since it was John Wong‘s first curated show and I always love to support friends.

The show payed homage to the Chinese Zodiac. Artists were assigned an animal and they had to create a piece which represented the animal they were given. For the most part, I thought 90% of the pieces were amazing– the few I didn’t like were just not my style. If you check the slideshow above you’ll see all of the pieces that were on display [or hit the link to see the original sizes]. I did however forget to take pics of 3 pieces though, two of which belong to Nemo.

I said I wasn’t going to go into details, simply because it’s been almost a month I think. But I did want to share some of the highlights along with the piece I picked up. If you want to see what pieces are still available, check out MyPlasticHeart‘s site. Hit the jump if you’d like to continue reading.

Thanks to the powers of Twitter, Cris Rose is one of the people I’ve become a huge fan of– well, Twitter and Flickr are both responsible for that. I was very excited to finally see one of his pieces up-close-and-personal. I’ve seen his stuff in photos and they look spectacular, but there’s nothing like seeing it in person and noticing every detail that’s been added and all the hardwork and dedication that goes into creating a Runcible.

Leontine Greenberg

Leontine Greenberg

My biggest delight of the night was being introduced to Leontine Greenberg‘s artwork. First, may I comment that I may just name my firstborn ‘Leontine’ simply because it’s such a beautiful name. But the most important thing to mention is that her watercolor pieces are exquisite. Most of my evening was spent drooling over the 3 pieces she submitted and at the end of the night, I dived in and purchased the piece on the top-left-hand  corner. I took a picture of the full piece, but it was a little dark so I thought I would show the sneak peeks she’d shared on her flickr. I’ve become an instant fan, and I really can’t wait for the show to be taken down just so I can bring my piece home.

Turns out, she’s participated in a couple of group shows and I really don’t understand how it took this long to be introduced to her and her works. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention? She was at the show, since it turns out she lives in Queens. I somehow mustured up enough courage to ask her for a sketch in my book. She was also a pleasure to talk to, thank Gods I haven’t had to deal with douches yet. =) I suggest you check out her site and see more of her works, I’m sure you’ll agree she’s an amazing artist.
