After Thoughts: Brent Nolasco’s Solo Show

Last Friday, I left you with a peak at Brent’s custom Kaws which he created for his Broken Hearts and Stolen Souls show at MPH. Above is a side view of the piece of work. I believe it’s the piece I took the most pictures of, I’m in love with it. I only wish I had $1900 to drop on it, it truly is magnificent. Please hit the jump to continue reading and to see more images of the show.

I realized that I never wrote/posted my after thoughts of his first solo show in NYC. I can honestly say that the man delivered nothing but excellence. When I finally made my way into the gallery, I was blown away by the colors used on his wood canvases and the details (and changes) he made to the vinyl platforms. I’d noted before that he  made [them] his own, and it still holds truth. Brent really made a statement with each of his customs. He wasn’t satisfied with just redoing a paint job, but he took it up a notch and added bones, bubbles, wings, etc.

But, I really wanted to give my impressions of his wood canvases. Within the scene, so far, we know Brent because of his custom works. His solo show, however, introduced me to his paintings. The paintings, similar to his customs, are full of details and bold colors. It became a lot more apparent his use of one bold color and sepia-like colors as a cool contrast. The piece above, along with the one below are the ones I have fallen in love with.

Below is a semi-panoramic photo of a bulk of his works. Check out my flickr set to see all his customs and paintings.

Saki- You going to stop by the Brent Nolasco/Nemo show at ToyQube this upcoming Saturday (7/18)? I am sure you will see more great stuff by Brent… I’m definitely going!

Definitely!! I love Brent and his work. My mom’s birthday is that Friday, so I’m hoping I’ll have a little cash left to support him. Hey, do you have a twitter?
