Spaced in the States

Just a couple days ago I featured Hef’s Shaun of the Dead custom munny. Along with the feature, he informed me that Spaced, Simon Pegg’s breakthrough into the entertainment business, was going to be released in the US. You can imagine I looked through the net for more info, but Hef was kind enough to send me a link to the press release. So ladies and gentlemen, above is the possible box art for the upcoming release.

If you’ve never seen or heard of this show before, it is definitely satisfying for the geek in us. It’s a total cult comedy, that of which you get a taste of through Hot Fuzz and Shaun of the Dead. Check what the release says:

This July, the clever and edgy comedy series that started it all for the award-winning team behind Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz, Spaced will be available for the first time in North America in a new collector’s DVD set from BBC Videoâ„¢. From creator-stars Simon Pegg (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz) and Jessica Hynes (nee Stevenson) (Shaun of the Dead, Son of Rambow), this 3-disc set features all 14 surreal episodes of the award-winning show, described by Pegg as “a cross between The Simpsons, The X-Files and Northern Exposure.” Spaced: The Complete Series will arrive in stores on July 22, 2008 for suggested retail price of $49.98 [Peggster.net]

I can’t wait for the dvd release. By the way, a lot of the references were lost on me when I first watched the show (though, there’s an option to turn on the “culture references” on so you don’t miss them). It doesn’t matter though, if you don’t get the references, you’ll fall in love with Daisy and Tim, the protagonists who pretend to be a couple in order to rent a flat. The characters were my favorite part, especially since we (my Mr. and I) were mirror images of them.
