I had the pleasure of attending the Mindstyle release party on Sunday where Buff Monster unleashed his white and pink 8″ Buff Monster. I got to the show a little late because I met up with my family to eat strawberry parfaits at Hiroko’s Place. I really recommend this restaurant (located on Thompson and Spring). When we arrived to Toy Tokyo’s Showroom, Sket was outside (he also dropped his 8″ Oreo Ripple which I LOVE!!) waiting for a cab I think. We caught up, since we haven’t been able to talk online for a while. I’m in school and he’s super busy with his works, so aim is not catering to the communication needs these days. It was great seeing him, since I hadn’t seen him in person since his show at MPH. Before we said goodbye he warned Buff was trying to get out of the place so I should hurry if I planned on getting a sketch.

When I got upstairs, the first thing I was mezmerized with was the main wall. It was taken up by a 6′ long Buff Monster face. I loved it. Buff’s manager, whose name I didn’t catch, asked how much we were willing to pay for the wall. $10,000? Sure, why not? If I had the money, I’d get all my favorite artists to do an exclusive work on all the walls in my home. Oh if only. Anyway, I spoke to Buff’s manager and explained that I love to collect souls and I really wanted to include Buff in my book. He looked through it, and then said he’d get Buff to sign his name. When Buff stepped out, I got all giddy and chatted with him for a bit. I think he was aware that I’m a fan of his works.
He went against his manager’s request and drew a Buff Monster in my book, with WINGS!! I love it. I’m so happy that he didn’t just sign his name. Then we got hooked up with some stickers, chatted a bit more, and left. Hit the jump to see a couple more pics. (more…)
