FundeRazor ‘07
This holiday season, due to work/payment circumstances, I won’t be giving too much to my fellow friends and family. This makes me super sad because I tend to love Christmas shopping, but this year is especially difficult. I know people don’t necessarily expect something from me, but I honestly love giving. Anyway, since I won’t be able to give too much in the monetary sense of the word, I’m always up for some form of volunteering or donating to local shelters, etc. It turns out there was a FundeRazor today. I’ve never heard of this organization or what they’re about, but I happen to read up on them through one of the sites I frequent. It turns out that this fundraiser is in direct collaboration with Child’s Play. The following is a statement from their site:
Since 2003, over 100,000 gamers worldwide have banded together through Child’s Play, a community based charity grown and nurtured from the game culture and industry. Over two million dollars in donations of toys, games, books and cash for sick kids in children’s hospitals across North America and the world have been collected since our inception.
This year, we have continued expanding across the country and the globe. With over 45 partner hospitals and more arriving every month, you can be sure to find one from the map above that needs your help! You can choose to purchase requested items from their online retailer wish lists, or make a cash donation that helps out Child’s Play hospitals everywhere. Any items purchased through Amazon will be shipped directly to your hospital of choice, so please be sure to select their shipping address rather than your own.
When gamers give back, it makes a difference!
The first thing I want to say is, people always claim that gamers are lazy bastards who don’t contribute to society. Clearly a misrepresentation [though we could still very well be lazy, who isn't?], but especially now, video games are making strides in today’s society and the presence of an organization like this is a true testament to our efforts of delivering a little holiday cheer to children in need.
It turns out that the FundeRazor was today in Brooklyn. The event started at 8pm and will continue to midnight tonight. Turns out its at Barcade, a not too shabby bar filled with lots of classic arcade games, hence the name. I wish I’d known about it sooner, because I would’ve loved to attend. The entrance price is [was] $10 at the door goes to the Child’s Play organization and automatically enters you in the goodie giveaway. An additional incentive? Hit the jump to see….

There are TWO companion cubes up for grabs tonight. I want one of these. If anyone is there and happens to win, send it my way– it will being me lots of holiday cheer.
Think about people!
P.S. They have Rock Band and Guitar Hero tonight. =(
If you found yourself in the same dilemma as me and weren’t able to attend, you can always donate directly through their paypal. Follow the link: Child’s Play dot com
