Julie West Kaniza- full view, originally uploaded by saki-waki.

I meant to update a lot sooner. I told people that at last weeks Toy Qube signing [please refer to Toy Qube Madness post] I had gotten a number of blank Kaniza’s signed by the numerous artists that were there. I got 4 in total; but my last Kaniza (which was done by Julie West) didn’t come home with me that night. Julie was tired and she was ready to get out of there and relax. So my boyfriend’s co-worker (she was staying w/ him during her stay in the US) agreed to take the blank and bring it to me later. And so: TA-DA!!

Pictured above is the finished piece. Isn’t she cute? I love it so much!!! If Julie is out there somewhere, you should know I really appreciate you doing this for me. What do you guys thing? I believe mine is the only one that had color!! yay for me! That is all… I’m still waiting for professors and starving.

Peace

Currently, I am communicating with you all from the abyss of the CCNY campus. Blah… anyway; while I wait around for professors to finish their classes and determine whether or not I can be in their class (stoopid ccny!! damn your administration!!)– I chose to post some news. Threadless is having a Back-to-School sale. Woo hoo!! What does this mean? It means all — scratch that, most, of their t-shirts are on sale for $10. Thanks to the peeps who ordered using my street team link (Santos) I can get an even better deal of $4.50 off my order. Oh snaps, the excitement of it all. [haha]

Sket-One @ MPH

Sket-One @ MPH, originally uploaded by saki-waki.

Oh snaps!!! Friday August 24th, 2007 was Sket-One’s Release Party over at My Plastic Heart, and it was awesome. Last week was my first toy show ever, refer to Toy Qube post, and this weeks show was even better. What was better?

Well, last week I had to travel a long and annoying trip to make it to Toy Qube; this week I only had to walk (cab) a couple of blocks to My Plastic Heart. It just so happens that the people responsible for providing my with my vinyl goods are right in my area. This is both bad and good, but I survive.

Anyway, I’m digressing; the other good thing about Sket’s release party is that I felt a lot more confident. What do I mean by this? I am one of those people who can instantly fall in love with a band/musician/artist and not know how they look or who they are. I also have a very bad memory, so that doesn’t help me at all. At last weeks release party, since it was my first one; I didn’t recognize half of the artists that were there. How embarrassing! Thanks to one of the Mr.’s co-worker’s girlfriend, she pointed out a good percentage of the people who were there. This, sadly enough, included Huck Gee, whose “Hello My Name is…” dunny is at the top of my favs list.

Also, Vincent and Vicky (I might have the spelling wrong); owners of My Plastic Heart; are super cool. Vincent introduced me to the artists and helped hook me up with some sketches. Oh snaps!! They are awesome people, and they have no idea how much I appreciate the help and the vinyls they provide me. heehee… *tear*

Sket was also pretty awesome. It turns out, I had also seen him at Toy Qube. o_O How horrible of me to not know it was him. He did a drawing for me, even though he’d burned his hand. When I asked what happened, he responded, “it happens.” [LOL] So cool. I could just be very “star struck” by all these artists. Funny enough, I don’t react this way with any Hollywood actors, at least not since I was 10 yrs old and met an actor from New York Undercover.

The show was awesome, I think I am going to purchase one of Sket’s Mixed Media prints… check out the rest of his prints over at MPH; they’ll be up for about a month. Hit the jump for more shots from the show. (more…)

Attaboy in the Mail

Attaboy in the Mail, originally uploaded by saki-waki.

A while back… about 2 months ago if I recall correctly, Attaboy was having a competition. It turns out that his GID Axtrx had appeared in the Transformers movie this summer, and the first 50 people to email him about when and where the Axtrx appeared would get a “surprise” in the mail. Well, I was worried for a while… but on Friday I went to my home to pick up some mail and rushed to get ready for Sket-One’s release party at My Plastic Heart; I was handed a thick envelope with this on the front. I won’t show you the whole thing, then you’d know where I live and where Attaboy sends his mail from. I was so psyched that it finally arrived!! So what was inside it? It was a book with 32 postcards from his art collection.

How cool is that? Granted, I will never rip out a single postcard, but it is definitely filled with some kick ass art. Most of it features his Axtrx, and he looks a lot cuter than I expected. I should admit that at first I misunderstood and thought I was going to receive a GID Axtrx, since its a limited edition vinyl; and I was bummed when I found out that I would be receiving something else; but this was GREAT!! Thank you Attaboy. Did anyone else win one?

Toy Qube Madness

Sunday, August 19th, 2007

This weekend was Toy Qube’s release party for Keith Poon’s Sharkys. I’d never been to Toy Qube before, so the whole train ride ordeal kept getting on my nerves, but it was perfect. Toy Qube is one of the bigger collectible toy shops in NYC and it was an incredible space to have a signing at. There were a handful of artists there and I was pretty embarrassed that I didn’t know more than half of them. Some of the artists included; Keith Poon, Andrew Bell, Julie West, kaNO, Huck Gee, Nemo, and others that I simply didn’t know their names. I am however, trying to look them up and there is a big possibility that MAD was there too, oh no! How horrible of me not to know him, the Mr. recently got me something of his online.

At first I walked around, noticed the tables where the artists were busy signing away people’s autograph books and toys. I wanted to get myself acquainted with the place, wanted to see everything they had in stock. They pretty much had everything else that is available to me in Manhattan. Then I purchased some blank Kazina’s and waited on line. Like I mentioned before, I didn’t know that this many artists were going to be there, their flyer only mentioned 2 of them… so I went unprepared. And well, I had some money so I only bought 4 blank Kazina’s;2 star shaped ones, 1 hammerhead one, and a kanser. I got Huck Gee (maker of “Hello My Name is…” dunny), Andrew Bell (maker of Zliks and some Kansers), Keith Poon (Sharkys!!) and Julie West (she did a kazina design for their new releases). I only got three blanks made yesterday and took some shots with the artists. I was especially worried about Andrew leaving, his hand was really tired; but he managed to make mine. Woo hoo! Julie was also tired, but lucky for me my boyfriend’s co-worker knows her and she was staying in their home– so she took my blank home and will send it to me. yay! Anyway, check out the shots after the jump:

Watchmen the Movie

Friday, August 17th, 2007

Uh… So I’m not sure that its in my right to write this post, or share the following news better said. My news come from the land of comics/graphic novel; Watchmen to be more specific. I own this graphic novel and have yet to finish it, along with a number of other comics at home. I did however want to share about the upcoming movie. Its over a year a way, but still wanted to let you know it was in the works and I look forward to both finishing the book and watching how the movie comes out:

Don’t know what Watchmen is about, check what Wiki had:

Watchmen is set in 1985, in an alternative history United States where costumed adventurers are real and the country is edging closer to a nuclear war with the Soviet Union (the Doomsday Clock is at five minutes to midnight).
